Reciprocal: Point 13
About This Lesson
POINT 13:The purpose of reciprocal
We have two types of reciprocal (a) Evil and (b) Good. Also we have first reciprocal and second reciprocal. The second reciprocal or reciprocate the second time is the mean purpose of reciprocal.
From definition E
Reciprocal is the result of exchanging the numerator and the denominator of a fraction.
For example.
Find the reciprocal of
Solution:
1 ÷ = 1 = answer
Thus, it changes from to
When a fraction has 1 as the numerator, e.g. or or
When you reciprocate them, it converts, changes to whole number.
E.g. Reciprocal of
(a) is 1 ÷ = 1 x = 2
(b) is 1 ÷ = 1 x = 3
(c) is 1 ÷ = 1 x = 4
Thus reciprocal converts a fraction with 1 as the numerator to a whole number. From this we can boldly say that reciprocal can repeat itself or can go twice which is the second reciprocal.
Find the reciprocal of 4
Solution:
4 is
The reciprocal of is 4.
This shows when 1 reciprocates a whole number, it gives a fraction (part) and when it reciprocates again the second time, it brings it back to whole number. This is the main purpose of reciprocals.
